Milestones – Equal Measures EP
Review by Ally Fisher

Debut EP Equal Measures is appropriately named as the five song sampler of Manchester five-piece Milestones encompasses equal measures of a solid pop-punk sound but also showcases several heavier elements as the tracks pass. Opening track, “Call Me Disaster,” is an idyllic pop punk song with its sprinkled gang vocals layered with lead singer Matthew Clarke’s paradoxically smooth yet rough vocals. Follow-up track “Hindsight” highlights the band’s heavier stylings with strained guitar riffs, synths and cacophonic beats. The most noteworthy song on the EP, however, is the closer, “Shot in the Dark.” The ballad is haunting with airy guitars and solemn vocals as it starts, but picks up as the chorus breaks with the full band and continues the pattern throughout.

At only five tracks, Equal Measures falls nothing short of a bucolic alternative/pop-punk compilation. As a brand new band arriving in the scene, Milestones has made their mark with a well-rounded EP that listeners won’t just listen to once or twice but repeatedly, so be sure to check this one out.
