Don’t Miss Out: Bad Seed Rising
Interview by Annette Hansen
Festival season is in full swing, and with that comes the biggest traveling festival of the summer- Warped Tour. This year the tour features a ton of throwback bands like Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Less Than Jake, New Found Glory and so many more! And while we love these bands and appreciate their contribution to the scene, we want to introduce you to some of the bands that you may not know about. Who knows? You might get introduced to your new favorite band.
We recently caught up with Bad Seed Rising bassist Louey Peraza to talk about their accomplishments as a band so far, how their age is an advantage for their first summer on Warped Tour and MORE!
You guys have accomplished a lot so far as a band: signing with Roadrunner Records, having a song featured in the major motion picture “Spy” and now earning a slot on this summer’s Warped Tour. On top of that, you all are still teenagers. How does it feel having taken so many strides at such a young age?
It’s really humbling to be able to do so many cool things at such a young age. We all still have a hard time really taking it in sometimes! [Laughs.] We’re really thankful for the opportunities we’ve had so far, and it’s really amazing being able to do so much fun stuff!
How do you feel taking on these new opportunities has helped motivate you and develop you as a band?
These opportunities really push us to be our very best and really show that while we’re young we can still throw down with the big dogs! [Laughs.] They really challenge us and make us step up right then and there because these things have the potential to be very good for us, and of course we don’t want to waste that.
Have you guys dealt with any challenges in the music industry with being so young? Do you feel like there is any extra pressure to prove yourselves?
I think that a lot of people judge us before they even hear a note, and that definitely makes us want to show everyone what we’ve got. I feel like people just think we’re a gimmick and so they discredit us before they even hear us, but once we play, I think it definitely makes some people double take!
Being of a similar age to a lot of the kids that are going to be attending Warped Tour this year, do you feel there is a connection you could make with them that other bands cannot?
Yeah for sure! I think that it’ll give a lot of kids a boost in confidence, you know? It’ll just show ’em that, yes you can put a band together and yes you can do big things if you really put your mind, body and soul into it.
In 2015, you guys put out the EP, A Place Called Home. You’ve said that you guys will be playing some new music this summer. Nearly a year out from you last release, it sounds like you have some new things in the works. What should fans be looking forward to?
Well we’ve been in the studio for a while putting together our first full length record, so that’s something we’re all excited about and hope everyone else is too! But yeah new record to look forward to as well as Warped Tour and we’ll be going out with I Prevail from 7/29- 8/26!
What are you most anticipating with being on Warped this summer, and what do you hope to take away from this experience?
We’re all really excited to see all the awesome bands that are on the bill this year as well as hanging out with some band friends, but I think we’re all really looking forward to just playing everyday and meeting everyone and just having a good time with all the fans! We want to go home after this summer and be able to say we had a blast and made as many new friends as possible, the fans keep us doing what we do and we love ’em to death so the more the merrier!
