Saosin – Along The Shadow
Album Review by Colleen Casey

He’s back ladies and gentlemen.  Anthony Green is back with Saosin, and you are in for a treat.  In case you aren’t familiar, Saosin formed back in 2003 with Anthony Green as an original member.  After several member changes and adding Cove Reber as the band’s vocalist once Green departed in 2004, they continued to release music until 2009.  Green worked on his own side projects and solo career, and has put out great releases with his band Circa Survive.  It wasn’t until 2014 that Green made his return to Saosin at the Skate and Surf Festival.  Fans weren’t sure if this would mean new music or just them dipping their toes back into the scene.  Then they did it– they got together and recorded their full length LP, Along The Shadow.  New music, but with some hints of original Saosin vibes, which I am beyond ecstatic about.

I have to say that the band’s first EP, Translating the Name, is still my favorite release even after hearing Along The Shadow.  It was the first time that I had heard Green’s incredible voice and the power that came through those songs.  As soon as I pressed play on the first song, “The Silver String,” I instantly thought that this new release was going to feel like Green took Circa Survive and old Saosin, tossed them in a pot, mixed them around, and brought that to the dinner table for recording.  The entire album will have you feeling that way with it’s blend of experimental and screamo punk.

Along The Shadow has emotional, poetic songs with energy shown by the rest of the band members in each.  As I have already mentioned, there are many songs that will have you feeling vibes from the old Saosin era, but there are also songs that showcase the band’s growth, reconnection, and talent that they have over the years.

It’s a new age for Saosin, and I believe that fans, both old and new, will enjoy what they have to offer with Along The Shadow. Be sure to catch Saosin this summer on the Taste of Chaos tour with the Early November, Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional.
