Behind The Song: Stone Cold Fox – “Morning Light”

0

Brooklyn natives Stone Cold Fox take the best parts of ’60s music and bring it up to speed in the modern day. Their combination of electronic elements with soulful, indie rock creates a unique auditory experience that’s sure to leave a mark on everyone who listens. The band–made up of Kevin Olken Henthorn (vocals. guitar), Aaron Hamel (drums), Graham Stone (guitar) and Justin Bright (bass)– will independently release their new EP, Tunnel Vision, on April 29. The EP includes an incredibly enticing number called “Morning Light,” which can be streamed below.

Regarding the track, Henthorn says:

Morning Light’s about a lazy day, sleeping in and mauling over the night before. The verses are meant to be set in the present while the choruses act as a reprise from that night. It began as an instrumental idea by Graham Stone. This was one of the first Stone Cold Fox song’s that I didn’t directly write from the get go, so it was kinda a challenge finding a story with it, but I think it ended up being really freeing and gave me a chance to explore other avenues of songwriting. I feel like the instrumental really drives the narrative forward, so my job was really to create the environment that the song lives in, the music does the rest. Because we took a more open approach to this song, everyone had a lot more room to really say something with their part and I feel like the bridge is such a great example of us really coming together as a band. That’s probably why it’s one of our favorite songs to play live.
