I was invited to listen to Cady Groves play a few songs from her new EP Dreams at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles last week. While setting up to photograph Groves in her dressing room, she was humming the chorus from Paramore’s “Fences” and asked what the next line was because that one little line had been stuck in her head for some time. I pulled out my phone, opened Spotify and played the song. For the next 15 minutes, we listened to Riot and talked about how Brand New Eyes is Paramore’s best release.
With twinkle lights illuminating the room, Groves walked on stage with guitarist Tomek Miernowski and spoke about her journey and how, at one point, she almost gave up. The duo performed songs from Dreams and left the room feeling more inspired than ever when they ended the night with the title track.
A force to be reckoned with, Groves is definitely living her dream.
