How did get started in music?
In a way it never “started” for me, it was always there. As long as I can remember, ever since I was 4, it was always clear to me I wanted to do something with music. But realizing I wanted to do it professionally happened when I started to upload my songs online at the age of 16, and suddenly heard people from all around the world say: we want more!
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Being asked to fly to LA from my hometown of Helsinki to perform for Joseph Gordon Levitt’s Hit Record show was a fantastic introduction into the business, but there’s something that happened just recently that can’t be beaten: My song “We Can Go Back Again” was placed in the upcoming indie film Married Young. It was truly an amazing feeling to see a rough cut in a theatre and see it placed in the film’s climactic ending scene – and then having the director be so happy with it that I was asked to write an original song for the film! That is more than I could have ever hoped for and has definitely been the highlight so far. There’s just something magical about the relationship with film and music, it’s an unbelievable experience to be a part of that and I can’t wait to write more songs for film.
Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
I always sing only about things I believe in, things I can stand behind – I’d never write songs about relationships just for the sake of being relatable, for example. I love spreading positive vibes, but also don’t shy away from the darker subjects. Transferring the whole range of emotions through stories, that’s what being a songwriter is about.
