Straight out of the Pacific Northwest, DIVIDES is here to rock. Blending metal core guitars over bright, clean vocals, the bands synergy gives their music purpose and emotion. Vocalist CJ Marie opened up to us about their experiences and journey as a band.

Current Members:

How did you form?

Bryan and I met through a mutual friend back home in Alaska in early 2012. I had just decided to quit my previous band, and both of us really wanted to write music in a heavier vein. One of the first things I told him is that touring the world, trying to write some music that really meant something, that’s what I wanted to do with my life. He and I were immediately on the same page, and everything just flew by from there. We recruited Joe and Corey from other bands in the Anchorage local music scene, and after moving to Portland, we brought Paul into the mix as well.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Playing the Portland date of Warped Tour this past year was really rad! But honestly, any time that we look out in the crowd and make eye contact with someone who really gets what we’re trying to do, I feel so happy I could burst.

Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?

DIVIDES is a passionate group of young individuals who believe in the power music has to connect human beings. Every aspect of our live show is catered to this idea. We want our fans to really walk away from our shows with more than they came in with – I want it to change their lives. With our debut record, Brokentooth, we really tried to bring that passion and energy to the recording. There are times when I’m openly sobbing on the record. But if it’s able to really reach out and hit someone, it’s worth it.
