Honest and true, pop artist Shanee Pink is of the likes you’ve never heard before. Hailing from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles, Pink is on the cusp of something great. Recently, Shanee sat down with us to talk about her brand new EP, and what every song means to her. You can check out her single, “Brutal Heart” below.

“Each of these songs were written and recorded in a day’s time. I went into the writing cave with my collaborators with only melodies and emotions in mind, and the goal was to write a song each day and record it right away in the studio. In hindsight I can see that the songs on this EP are like the stages of a break up. Each song representing a different realization.”

“Brutal Heart”
When you love someone and they just don’t know how to love you back. There’s a toxic attraction between empaths and narcissists. I learned my lesson but not before I wrote this song. In the studio, we knew what this song was about before we wrote the lyrics to it. The melody for the chorus felt dramatic and I knew this was going to be about beating the love out of someone which is of course an oxymoron.

“A Beginning”
You know when you’re going through something really hard in life and you think all your hopes and dreams have all gone up in flames? Well this is about realizing that it’s all an illusion. Just like one mans trash is another mans treasure. One mans loss is another ones gain. What seems to be the end is only just the beginning of something else. Everything on this planet is cyclical including the human experience.

“Howl”
I’m literally howling in this song like a wolf because I’m asking; Where are my people at? If you can hear me, if you can see me, let me know. I want to know that there are other people around who feel the way I feel about things. That I’m not alone. That you exist too. There must be some people out there who do.

“Like A Light”
The discovery that you can feel attracted to someone again and that new attraction is like a light torch giving hope to the future. It may not be as deep a love as the one you are parting from but it is just as inspiring.

“Someone You Love”
We’re always searching for someone to love. Maybe we should try being a person we could love. It’s time to invest in becoming someone you are proud to be, and also just accepting yourself for who you are. And being kind to yourself as you would be to someone you love.

“Now”Now that you’re freed up of being one half of a couple and you’re back on your own again, what are you going to contribute to your relationship with the world/ with yourself? What’s a better time than now? What makes you come alive? All these songs are really me talking myself through something. They didn’t really make sense as I was writing them. But now, as i see them together in this order- I get it. This is a break up album. About saying good bye to someone who was my motivation and finding happiness between myself and the world.
