Summer may be festival season, but I personally think the best tours come to town in the fall. There is something about waiting in line at a venue when the leaves are changing and the weather is starting to get brisk that is enjoyable. Summer is a time for play, so it is always great to have reprieve from work or school by attending a concert. Here are five fall tours in the United States that you shouldn’t miss.
Misterwives
Scrapbook Tour running September 23 – November 8
Bouncy, lighthearted pop group Misterwives are all about having fun. Attend the Scrapbook Tour if you are looking for a party and the chance to sing and dance along to their debut album Our Own House, which dropped earlier this year. You may run out of breath attempting Mandy Lee’s ridiculous high-notes while doing so, but at least it’s a good workout, right?
AWOLNATION
US tour running September 6 – November 10
Another artist who has released an incredible new album this year is AWOLNATION. If you’ve never seen the act live, here’s your chance. Of course tracks from Megalithic Symphony such as “Sail,” “Not Your Fault” and “Kill Your Heroes” are epic live, but “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” and “I Am” off of Run will, well, give them a run for their money. This will be a tour where the audience is guaranteed to feel alive.
Colony House
US tour with COIN running September 28 – October 28
Playing smaller, intimate venues throughout the US, Colony House and COIN are both alternative rock artists that should be on your radar. Colony House has been touring nonstop, taking a small break from being on the road after opening for Needtobreathe and Switchfoot on the Tour de Compadres this summer. They are positive, upbeat and a genuinely brilliant. 2014’s When I Was Younger is a favorite of mine. COIN released a self-titled album recently so there will be plenty of new songs to be heard live.
Sufjan Stevens
US tour running October 24 – November 13
Sufjan Stevens released his most personal album yet this past March. Carrie & Lowell is a recollection of his difficult childhood and grieving the death of the mother who walked away. Witnessing such rawness in person is something you should consider if you are craving a stripped down, authentic performance.
Twenty One Pilots
Blurryface Tour running September 8 – December 14
I consider Blurryface to be the best album of the year thus far. Maybe I’m a little biased because I consider Twenty One Pilots one of my favorite bands, but missing the opportunity to hear this album live would be a travesty. The duo are the most energetic performers and have intricately crafted each song with the intention of incorporating them into their live shows. Expect to see backflips, dangerous climbing stunts and to get up close and personal with Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph in the crowd. You will feel like you are participating in the performance.
