It’s officially summertime and that means road trips, lounging by the pool or the beach, and of course, concerts. But, what about those free days you have in-between, where you have absolutely nothing to do and it’s just too hot to go outside? Luckily, Netflix and Hulu are at their prime, giving us a near endless amount of television shows to binge watch during those days where we just don’t feel like doing anything at all. So here is my list of 5 tv shows you need to binge watch this summer while you lay in bed with some snacks, the A/C on high, and not a care in the world.
GOTHAM: Gotham is the notorious prequel to the infamous “Batman” franchise. The story follows Detective Jim Gordon and his partner Detective Harvey Bullock as they deal with the never-ending crime that plagues the city of Gotham. The show also, of course, follows the storyline of Bruce Wayne after the death of his parents and his newfound role as the head of Wayne Enterprise. There’s only one season out now (which is streaming on Hulu) so it should be fairly easy to catch up on before the second season starts back up later in the year!
THE LEAGUE: If you’re anything like me, summer is the home stretch before the greatest season of all starts; football season, and The League is the perfect filler for those longings of Sunday night games. The League follows six friends as they take on life as well as the around-the-clock task of Fantasy Football. It’s raunchy, tongue-in-cheek, and perfect for someone who enjoys crude humor. Seasons 1-5 are all on Netflix and with episodes running only 20 minutes long, it’s the perfect show to binge watch and catch up on, just in time for the fall season premier.
FRIENDS: If you’re absolutely stranded with nothing to do this summer, Friends will be there for you (ha-ha) to fill in that void. Who doesn’t want to hang out with Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey all summer? All ten seasons are on Netflix making that a do-able feat for your summer vacation.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: I’ve loved Andy Samberg since I first saw him in Hot Rod back in 2008 so when I heard he was starring in his own TV show, I knew it was something I had to check out. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a light-hearted comedy that will make your summer vacation fly by the moment you take a metaphorical foot in the nine-nine precinct. Seasons one and two are on Hulu leaving the catch up to the fall premiere as easy as a click of the button.
BOB’S BURGERS: If you haven’t watched Bob’s Burgers yet you are seriously missing out. The show is a masterpiece that I hope never ends. The Belcher family is awkward, relatable, and pun-friendly. I binge watched this series twice last summer, that’s how good it is. Seasons 1-6 are on Netflix so don’t leave the Belcher family waiting! They need your business, seriously.
