The Best of Motion City Soundtrack
Words By Colleen Casey
While it’s hard for many people to pinpoint their favorite band or artist, I can easily tell people that Motion City Soundtrack is mine. They were the first band that I really got into on my own growing up and each album they put out finds a way to make me fall in love with their music again. Here is my list of Motion City Soundtrack’s best albums.
1. Commit This To Memory
Commit This To Memory reached it’s 10 year mark this January. This album hits close to me because I can remember back when I had heard it in 2005. I use to get all of my music from my older brother’s CD collections, but this album was the first I had heard of Motion City and it was the first album that grabbed my attention on my own. I would listen to it daily and still do. Each song pulls you in and tells a story and also has you singing along. I think it is impossible for one not to be a fan of every track off this release.
“Everything Is Alright”
2. Even If It Kills You
This is where Motion City decided to go for more of the pop side of their genre. They never try to sound like other bands or like something their not. They keep true to their story telling and their synth riffs that are heard in all their releases. These songs have you everywhere from jumping around dancing or sitting contently listening to the heartfelt words of Justin Pierre.
“This Is For Real”
3. I Am The Movie
This was Motion City’s first release. Listen to the songs “The Future Freaks Me Out,” “A-OK,” “My Favorite Accident,” as those are some of my favorites and I believe are the best off I Am The Movie.
“The Future Freaks Me Out”
4. My Dinosaur Life
Both My Dinosaur Life and Commit This To Memory were produced by Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus and which is what I believe helped Motion City to not lose their roots when it came to their sound. This album is more on the darker side but yet still has catchy lyrics and melodies making you constantly sing along.
“Her Words Destroyed My Planet”
5. Go
Go is Motion City’s most recent release. Seriously, have you listened to all these albums yet? This band can do no wrong! Again Motion City put out an album with great melodies, riffs, and lyrics. Two of my favorites from this release are “Boxelder” and “Son of A Gun.”
“True Romance”
Motion City has a new album that will be coming out sometime this year and are heading out on a few dates of Warped Tour this summer.
