5 Bands To Watch In 2015
By Jessica Klinner

I’d like to think I have a knack for predicting the future. No, I’m not claiming to be a psychic or anything like that. Maybe a better term for it is intuition. I just get good vibes about certain things such as guessing which teams will make it to the college football playoffs and which bands will be the next big thing. I’m not always right, but I’d say that 95% of my predictions come true. Last year about this time, I wrote up a similar list of bands I thought would break out in 2014. I was right about all of them, though some did not completely break through. This year, I’m once again making my predictions. (Disclaimer: Three of these bands are repeats from last year’s list, but who cares?)

PVRIS

By now, you’ve heard of PVRIS, and if you haven’t, then it’s time to crawl out from the rock you’ve been living under. They had a big year in 2014, being picked up on several big tours including Mayday Parade’s Honeymoon Tour and releasing their debut full-length album. But with the release of White Noise in December, PVRIS did not have a chance to feed off of the success of the release for long in 2014. So, 2015 will be their year, and they’re kicking it off on tour with Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce the Veil. It won’t be long before they’ll see their name being thrown around with the top acts in the scene.

Knuckle Puck

With a name like Knuckle Puck, it’s hard to forget about these punk rockers from Chicago. Last year, the young band embarked on four full U.S. tours and signed with Rise Records. But here’s the best part: They accomplished all of that without releasing a full-length album. Up to this point, Knuckle Puck have only released a handful of EPs. With a debut full-length due out this summer, a spot on The Maine’s American Candy Tour and a growing fan base, Knuckle Puck will see 2015 as the biggest year of their career. Mark my words.

Misterwives

The guys and gal in Misterwives first came onto my radar when I saw them open for twenty one pilots last fall. I had so much fun watching them perform live that I bought all of their songs off iTunes the next day and listened to them for weeks on repeat. They just recently announced a spring headlining tour, which will start directly after the release of their debut full-length album, Our Own House, on Feb. 24. If their new single of the same name is any indication of what the rest of the album will sound like, we are all in for a treat. Don’t sleep on this band!

New Politics

If you’ve attended any of Fall Out Boy’s U.S. tours since they returned from hiatus, you’ve probably been captivated and completely caught off guard by the talent and ceaseless energy of the three guys in New Politics.  At the end of 2014, the band released a new single called “Everywhere I Go (Kings and Queens)” as a teaser for what fans can expect from their new album, Vikings, which will be released later this year. Last year, I predicted that 2014 would be when New Politics took over. Though they did have a successful year, they didn’t quite get as far off the ground as I expected, but with the release of their new album on the horizon, I believe they’ll have an extremely successful 2015! They’re destined for greatness. The rest of the world just hasn’t caught on yet.

State Champs are one of the most overlooked and underrated bands in the scene right now, but not for long. With an opening spot on All Time Low’s Future Hearts tour this spring, the Albany, N.Y. natives are destined to do big things this year.  Keep and eye and ear out for State Champs. Before you know it, they’re going to be headlining a full U.S. tour and tearing up Warped Tour!
