Pop-R&B artist Kandace Springs, is warm, soulful and genuine, and her music reflects that attitude. The singer based out of Nashville released her debut self-titled EP this past fall, as well as a video for her single, “Love Got In The Way,” which you can check out below.
How did you get your start in music?
“When I was 10, we helped out a lady that was going through hard times by keeping her piano at our house. It was an old Upright piano, and pretty soon I started picking on it. My dad showed me how to play the first few bars of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”. I was somehow able to play it back to him fairly easily and then he asked if I wanted to take some lessons. I jumped at the chance. Turns out, my first teacher(s) were the Wooten Brothers. That’s when about I learned about soul music, and I just fell in love. I started singing when I was 13. At the time, I was listening to Norah Jones’ album, “Come Away With Me.” I loved it and her. It’s still one of my favorites.”
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
“Being invited by The Purple One (aka Prince) to Paisley Park for his 30th Anniversary of Purple Rain and getting to perform with him. I got to play his custom see-through Fender Rhodes that night. That piano is gorgeous. I also loved performing on “The Late Show with David Letterman”.”
Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
“Real simple: I sing from my heart and soul.”
