Copeland – Ixora
Album Review by Colleen Casey
It has been a good year of comebacks for popular bands from the past, and after a 6 year hiatus, Copeland has returned. They are back with an album giving those anxiously awaiting fans a breath of fresh air. Copeland’s Ixora was released on November 24th. This is the band’s fifth album and one of the most anticipated album releases of 2014.
Growing up a teenager in the early 2000’s, I had a lot of favorite bands and listened to a variety of music. While I thought Copeland was very talented, I never found myself obsessed with them. After taking a listen to Ixora, I found myself listening to the whole album over and over. Congratulations Copeland, you have me hooked. I listened back to the band’s previous release from 2008, You Are My Sunshine, and Ixora is a smooth transition from the two.
Aaron Marsh has a true talent when it comes to writing and his vocal ability. Ixora is an album that makes you feel the connection between the emotions and the artist. Songs that include piano instrumentals make me weak at the knees and if that’s the case for you as well, be prepared to swoon over these songs.
One of my favorite songs from Ixora, “Ordinary” deals with the processes of growing up. It’s a song that reminds me of Copeland’s older music as if it would have been great on Eat, Sleep, Repeat. You will find heartfelt, meaningful lyrics in each and every one of these songs off this record, in all of Copeland’s music for that matter.
As I sit in my room writing this review and listening to Ixora, I am the most relaxed I have been in awhile. This is definitely an album I will continue to have on repeat and one I highly recommend you check out as well. Trust me Copeland fans, this one will not disappoint you.
