Ship Captain Crew

0

Ship Captain Crew aren’t your typical indie-rockers. The five-piece based out of south Chicago showcases a combination of melodic, punk-infused breakdowns with resonating instrument, while refusing to conform to the suggested pop-punk stereotypes. The band isn’t afraid to explore darker themes and heavier overtones.

Current Single: “Notebooks”

Members:

Roy Coghill // Bass

Ben Darling // Guitar

Roger Moreno // Vocals

Mike Reda  // Drums

Angelo Sakellaropoulos // Guitar

How did you form?

Mike and Roger have been playing in bands together since 2005. They started playing shows at a local venue called Mojoes, which launched many bands’ careers during the heyday of Myspace. They started Ship Captain Crew in 2010 after meeting the other members at an Attack Attack! show. The show was sold out and none of them made it in. They regrouped at a local house party, and in their despair began writing songs.

What has been the Highlight of your career?

Filming a music video for “Notebooks” with our good friend Jay Galbreath. He followed us around for the better part of two years, writing, practicing, recording and playing shows. It shows a POV perspective of us forming an identity & coming to terms with the fact the we will never conform to expectations.

Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?

Ship Captain Crew is not your typical Pop Punk band. We all come from different backgrounds from Emo to Heavy Metal, Post-Hardcore, Arena Rock and R&B. Roger also writes about more than the typical boy/girl breakup story. His lyrics focus on personal growth and healing, yet are laced with references to ancient wisdom and mysticism. We try not to take ourselves too seriously though, and always have a blast at live shows. Come for the Party, stay for the Heart.
