Underwater Tiger from Horseheads, NY shares a brotherly bond with each other, both in music and in family. Forming in 2010, the alternative rock outfit came together when the Furstoss and Miner brothers came together to create Anberlin and Jimmy Eat world infused melodies with powerful lyrics and guitars. The group has also released a lyric video for their current single, “Hole In The Sky,” which you can check out below.

How did you form?
“Our families have known each other for a long time. We went to high school together, our separate bands played shows with each other from time to time, but it wasn’t until 2010 that we formed a band together.”
Thor, the lead singer of The Assembly Line sent Matt a message about a show opportunity in NYC. The two had connected over MySpace a couple years earlier after hearing each other’s demos. Matt didn’t have a band at the time and mentioned the opportunity to Andy as they were having a beer one night. Andy said “My brother Nate is really into this stuff right now, give him a call.” Matt called Nate up, asked him to the play the show and Nate said “hell yeah!” Matt then recruited his brother Mike and friend Rocco as they lived in Jersey and would have a short jet to the show.
“Returning home after the show, Matt and Nate decided they wanted to establish a band and keep things going. All living local at the time, it was a perfect fit for Matt’s brothers Ron and Anthony and Nate’s brother Andy to jump in on bass and guitars. We played our first show together as a quintet in April of 2010.”
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
“After four years of building a fan base and local notoriety, we were asked to play our first arena show at the appropriately named First Arena in Elmira, NY. It was an amazing experience to have the perfect sound system and a giant stage to play our music for the people that mean the most.”
Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
“One cool aspect about our new record that is pretty unique is we wrote most of the lyrics and a lot of the melodies as a group, and all 5 of us sing at different points in the music. It is a pretty tough thing to do. The fact that we are brothers gives us the ability to be a lot more honest with each other than most bands can be about ideas and parts to songs. We also are a completely independent band. We wrote, produced, and had Nate engineer the entire EP. We fund our videos and mixing/mastering with money we earned or raised as a band. Because of this, we are able to call our own shots. To get our start, we raised almost $5,000 through an Indiegogo campaign to help fund our first music video for our first single “Bones”, as well as fund the production of our album Where Miles Become Meaning.”
