Chicago trio, Air Tight, will officially release their EP, Warmth, tomorrow, but we’re streaming it today! Take a listen to this incredible EP below and check out a short interview we had with them about their music!
1. Was this collection of music what you had envisioned would be the product?
Well originally, we recorded our EP at a different studio with an additional song. In the end, the product was not what we wanted it to sound like, which is what led us to Chrome Attic recording studio. Once we started recording there we realized the EP was headed in the direction we wanted and we couldn’t be happier with the finished product.
2. The first track on the EP is honestly so majestic and wonderful but yet calming? I don’t know how you did it. What is the story behind that sound?
When we wrote it we wanted it to be a critique of how people go about there lives sitting on their phone not realizing their amazing surroundings, specifically the city of Chicago. We wanted to relay the beauty of Chicago in the song, hence the calming synth tones and bright sounds. In the song we say “Open your eyes to what you see,” we want people to take the time to realize they are in one of America’s greatest cities.
3. Now the second track, “Ballos,” you pick up the speed so why did you decide to start it off slower?
A lot of bands choose to go the easy way by putting there hit song first to grab attention, but we wanted to grab attention by putting our deepest song first. We felt that the long intro of “Millennium City” was also a good way to start off an EP and warm up the ear of the listener.
4. I could definitely picture “Sacred Trends” on alternative radio. Has that ever been something you would want to pursue in the future? Getting radio airplay for your songs?
Definitely. It’s something we didn’t necessarily write the songs for, but of course radio airplay would be awesome.
5. I always love asking band’s if their surroundings and neighborhood influenced their music. Did the city of Chicago have anything to do with it for you or was it more of a personal “this is what I like” type of thing?
We would say half and half. As we said earlier “Millennium City” is about Chicago, and even “Warmth” is about locations (like the beach) of summer and feelings of nostalgia that come with those locations. However, there are other songs on the EP that are inspired from personal interactions and everyday life.
6. What was your favorite thing about making this album?
The people we worked with on this record are unbelievably great at what they do. Working with our producers Jon Alvin and Gabe Liebowitz was an amazing opportunity. We learned so much and had even more fun in the process. We actually worked with another producer Sean O’Keefe who helped bring the finished product together, he was great at taking the song in the final direction it needed to be.
