Five Albums To Get You Pumped For School
Words and Picks by Jennifer Boylen

As the school year is fast approaching (and my opportunities to sleep until lunch seriously dwindling), all I can think about it what is going to get me through long commutes and waking up before the sun. Then I realized, all it takes to feel pumped for school is the right playlist. Whether you’re in high school, college, or even just trying to get through your workweek, picking the right sound track can make all the difference. As long as you have songs that you can enjoy, be uplifted by, and rock out to while you’re getting ready in the morning, there’s no reason that school should get you down. This week is the start of my work for this semester, so here is my back to school playlist.

Troye Sivan – TRXYE
Troye Sivan is an Australian Youtuber who just released an EP. Occasionally he posts cover videos, but those are nothing compared to his originals. This EP is the perfect mix between sultry, emotional vocals and severally poppy electronics. You can’t help but vibe with it.

MKTO – MKTO
“Classic” was everyone’s radio jam this summer, and MKTO’s self-titled record is definitely up to par with their first single. This entire album is upbeat and irresistibly pop through and through, but it still has a lot of soul and even more talent behind it. Plus, the lyrics are very catchy, so you’re bound to sing along to it.

The Cab – Lock Me Up
I have been a fan of The Cab from the start. Although they have gone through a few line up changes and even bigger changes in their sound, their most recent EP, Lock Me Up, is definitely a keeper. Arguably, it’s more of an Alex DeLeon project than a band release, it’s still great. Once again, it’s very catchy and leans more towards the pop end of the music spectrum; apparently that’s the only genre that gets me through early mornings, but Lock Me Up is infectious none the less.

Echosmith – Talking Dreams
Echomsith may or may not have caught my attention because I keep seeing their name spray painted on sidewalks and venue parking lots all over Chicago, but they have kept my attention with their music. Talking Dreams is the perfect mix between Indie and pop (shocking, I know) and I’m head over heals for it. If the fact that Echosmith is made up of four siblings, only one of which isn’t a teenager, doesn’t win you over, this record definitely will.

Mayday Parade – Monsters In The Closet
Last but not least, if I’m ever having a really tough day I always reach for Mayday Parade. Today, I’m the mood for their newest release, Monsters in the Closet. Mayday Parade has a style that is distinguishingly theirs, and they never fail to impress me.
