Backstory
“Rescue” was basically a huge gift to me. It was co-written by Stevie Aiello of 30 Seconds To Mars, Ryan Key of Yellowcard, and my producer, Seth Jones. The very first time I met Seth was at a show in Los Angeles. Soon after he brought me into his studio as a demo vocalist to sing this song he had written with Stevie and Ryan and, not knowing me very well at all, he thought I would bring a different sound to this pop anthem they had created. Little did he know, “Rescue”was (and still is) basically the story of my life!
When I heard the song for the first time, without saying anything to Seth, I knew I wanted to record and release this song as my first single. Sometimes there are those songs that you hear and you get chills throughout your body. That was “Rescue”for me. I do not think it was a coincidence that I met Seth and was brought in by these guys to cut a vocal on this track.
Not only did I personally relate to “Rescue,”but it also represents the beginning of a new chapter and working relationship with my amazing producer Seth Jones and his production team, The Alphabet. The song represents rebirth and new beginnings for my career and there was no question that I wanted this to be the first official single people would hear from me from my very first EP called Cycles.
Lyrics
I was broken down when you found me
Just a heart bled dry in your hand
There was no way out, I was drowning
I had one last breath when you came
In all of the madness you’re not afraid
Out of the darkness you find a way
When nothing can set me free
Baby, you rescue me
I lost all my love, there was no fire
Just a heart gone cold underground
I saw your face for the first time
I found one last beat in my chest, oh
In all of the madness you’re not afraid
Out of the darkness you find a way
When nothing can set me free
Baby, you rescue me
I was broken down when you found me
Just a heart bled dry in your hand
In all of the madness you’re not afraid
Out of the darkness you find a way
When nothing can set me free
Baby, you rescue me
Baby, you rescue me
Baby, you rescue me
When nothing can set me free
Baby, you rescue me
