The Oversight – Far From Gone
Review by Catt Kruger
The Oversight is an up and coming band that needs to be watched out for. Far From Gone is a collection of five unique songs that piece together their first ever EP. It starts out with a strong message that the four members want to be known. The first song “Collective” explains a little bit about what they’ve been through, what they have become, and that they are far from gone. It incorporates the title of the EP in a way that they get the message across- they are bound together, a new family, and are not going anywhere anytime soon.
These songs have a blend of rock and instrumental within them. This band stands out amongst many main stream bands today and instead of writing and singing about getting girls and partying, their lyrics speak for themselves and cannot be put into any type of stereotypical mold. Each song has a story to tell and each song can be easily relatable. When writing music it’s easy to write down feelings, but it’s hard to capture your audience and have them relate but they did just that. They may be a new band but I wouldn’t miss checking them out when their EP releases July 22nd (today)!
Track four “When 5 AM Turns” is my favorite and most recommended track for this album. Starting off slow, this song captures you as the tempo slowly builds up and builds to be more upbeat. It is such a relatable song, tossing and turning thinking about everything at night, wishing you could clear your head just to find some sleep. I can only look forward to more of what The Oversight has to offer in the future.
