The Captain – Hello Hope
Review by Trevor Figge
Hello Hope is The Captain’s first full length release. For those of you whom don’t know, The Captain is an up and coming Pop/Posi/Rock artist who has already started to gain a following in Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA. For Hello Hope The Captain pulled out all the stops. They recorded at Dark Horse Studios where to name a few artists: Relient K and Taylor Swift have recorded. Not to mention he had the prestigious engineer Matt Malpass (Hey Monday, Relient K, and Manchester Orchestra) mix the songs and Troy Glessner (Anberlin and Hawk Nelson) master this album. So rest assured, these songs not only pack a punch but they’ve also all been recorded, mixed and mastered beautifully. Which means they sound great!
Hello Hope starts out with an intro track that seamlessly leads right into the title track “Hello Hope”. The driving synths coupled with Morgan Carney’s vocals instill hope within, as you can’t help but sing along with him when he sings, “look at us now we’ve made it this far”.
This song gets you excited and ready for what is to come. “Hello Hope” leaves you begging for more synth driven rock to tap your toes to, which lead singer Morgan Carney delivers immediately. Tracks like “Handcuffs” and “Soldiers” showcase the bands energy all the while highlighting beautifully [Carney’s] dreamy falsetto vocals. On tracks like “Hello Hope” and “Away” you can truly feel the sincerity and truth that lies within every single word that Carney sings. These aren’t just Pop songs, they are Pop songs that mean something. Each one is packed with quotes that anyone can relate to and sing along with.
Hello Hope is an ambitious debut for The Captain, but a very welcomed one at that. I highly recommend giving this album a listen if not for at the very least the title track “Hello Hope”.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
