How did the band form?
JM: I met Daniel at Fordham in NYC. We then recruited Daniel’s childhood friends Brendan Picone and Tom McIntyre for the rhythm section.
DQ: I grew up playing music with Brendan and Tom in a scene based out of Brendan’s garage. After Jack and I started writing material at college, I brought him up to Hastings to record with Brendan. Soon after, Cosmonaut was fully formed.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
JM: So many moments, mostly when we are playing live and the audience is really locked in and having a good time. We got to contribute a track to “Occupy this Album” where we got to be on a record with Patti Smith which was a pretty amazing experience.

Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
JM: I think our songs take standard pop structure and turn it on its head. It happens with our treatments to our sound, a clash of high and low brow. I think we create music that’s cool because it’s real; this is who we are. We are different because we aren’t into this for the wrong reasons. Music should speak to real experience in an honest way.

DQ: Like Jack said, I think our music operates in an area that is relateable for a lot of different listeners but really brings something new to the table. We try to find our own voice structurally with song arrangements but also tonally.
