Cassadee Pope
London, England // May 14th
Review by Madison Convey
The last time Cassadee Pope performed in the UK, it was as the feisty front-woman of pop rock band Hey Monday. When the band announced an indefinite hiatus, Cassadee embarked on a solo career that led to her competing on The Voice and winning, before completely changing her sound and becoming a country artist. Country music doesn’t have as much of a following overseas, naturally, but with Cassadee’s fan base consisting of former Hey Monday fans as well, she definitely has a strong demand over in Europe.
For her first performance outside of the US as a solo artist, Cassadee took to the Gibson Guitar Studio in London, England to take part in a showcase entitled ‘Sounds Like Nashville’. She might have only performed four songs, but with that short amount of time she managed to captivate the small crowd before her with her incredibly catchy yet heartfelt tracks. The audience was made up of mostly industry types, along with a few lucky fans who managed to win a competition, but Cassadee was received incredibly well considering all things.
Her set consisted of “Champagne,” “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart,” “11” and “Wasting All These Tears,” all taken from her most recent album Frame By Frame – a top 10 record in the US and due to be released in the UK next week via Decca Records. The positive reaction to “11,” a song about her parents’ divorce when she was a child, had the singer in near tears as she played to a city who aren’t incredibly versed in the ways of country music.
For what it was, Cassadee did impressively well at enchanting the crowd, bringing up the energy and making sure everyone had an enjoyable evening despite the short length of her performance.
