Such A Mess – Good Intentions Giving Wa
Review by Trevor Figge

Such A Mess put out Good Intentions Giving Way on the 29th of April, as a follow up to Times Like These. But this release is much different, combining elements from the past days of Pop-Punk when New Found Glory and Fall Out Boy ruled the scene paired with the new flood of Pop-Punk with upbeat double time. Good Intentions Giving Way is most certainly a Pop-Punk album,

The title track “Good Intentions” paints you a perfect picture for how the rest of the record will follow. Lyrical stylings beautifully paint the picture of love, life’s struggles, and of course friendship. Meanwhile, instrumental stylings melodically carry you from track to track, flowing into one another. The only downside to this album was the acoustic track “Hope.” It lacks the energy that the rest of the album caries throughout it.

That being said, there isn’t much to this album that changes or challenges the scene. It is very much like every other Pop-Punk band who currently reside at the top of the Pop-Punk pedestal. Which isn’t a bad thing, however it’s not the best thing. Their album doesn’t stand out, nor does it see lack luster in comparison to many bands out there. In terms of a ‘freshman’ release for a Pop-Punk band, it’s good, pretty darn good. Is it a likely contender? No, but it’s definitely worth a listen to solely because this band is one of the up and coming bands in the Pop-Punk scene. They very well could be the next State Champs, Major League, or even The Story So Far. But as for now, they are just a very good B – or C level Pop-Punk band. Which is why I give this album a 3.5/5
