The North is a post hardcore band from Hampton, VA that formed accidentally. Drawing influences from bands like Defeater, As Cities Burn, Silverstein, The North has certainly made a sound of their own. However, this band behaves more like family than just band, and that sense of closeness is what comes first in their career. Take a look at their profile below to learn more about The North!

How did the band form?
The North accidentally formed when Dan and Napoleon had a push from Dan’s wife to start a band out of Dan’s acoustic music about missing home. The band really came together out of nowhere and took off. We found that we loved having dinner, playing beach football and hanging out. We have more meals together than practice! Music really comes second for us because we all were looking for a family. We found direction in each other and a common goal to strive for. It really solidified us.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
This may sound weird but the biggest highlight so far comes from what should have been a horrible experience. We played a show in North Carolina and while we were on the promoter took all the money from the show and didn’t pay any of the bands. We had a 4-hour drive home and no gas money. We asked kids whatever they could spare to help us and within 5 minutes we had enough money for a full tank of gas and a feast from Taco Bell’s dollar menu. We started raffling off shirts for donations and ended up hanging out at the venue until almost 1 AM. The kindness that was shown to us was really humbling.
Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
Every band says “check us out!” or “we sound totally different than everyone else” and we respect that, but we like to think what makes us stick out is that we sound like if you stepped back into the early 2000’s. We write music from real experiences, and not just because something sounds cool. A lot of bands write a cool guitar riff and then build a song around it. We take an idea or an experience and write a song around it. The music compliments the lyrics instead of the other way around.
