Comeback Kid – Die Knowing
Review by Daisy Marietta
Hardcore is a difficult genre for some to wrap their heads around. Whether you’re a fan of the genre altogether, like a few bands, or generally dislike every song you hear, there always seems to be a reason for it. Hardcore music comes with a “scene,” a perceived notion, and a certain type of following.
They’ve been around for quite some time now, and although they may not be known for doing something monumental or game changing, they’ve always managed to produce solid, satisfying records. It doesn’t have to be something brand spankin’ new every time in order to be impressive. The thing I’ve admired about Comeback Kid is their ability to do just that– capture an audience by knowing what they’re good at and doing it well. It’s been about four years since they’ve released something, and I, along with many others, wondered what was coming next. They sure didn’t disappoint.
Although the band has been called typical hardcore at times, this new album has something different to offer. With a whole lot of shouting that gets you moving, and a sound that makes it easy to imagine you’re with them in a crowded, dangerous venue, it’s obvious CBK isn’t going anywhere.
While it’s slightly slow building, the album reaches a fast pace and stays there. They have a way of capturing the incredible energy that comes with this type of music, especially found at live shows. With more relatable lyrics than their past couple of records, it’s easy to find yourself singing along, or at the very least, humming.
Surprisingly, for a self-proclaimed snob as myself, there weren’t any tracks that stood out as something I didn’t like. It was all around solid and enjoyable to listen to, getting me moving, even during the most mundane activities of the day. But there were a few tracks I enjoyed especially, including the title track, and my ultimate favorite, “Should Know Better.”
Overall Rating: 4/5
Recommended Tracks: “Should Know Better” & “Didn’t Even Mind” and of course “Die Knowing”
