“Next To You” isn’t like the rest of the break up songs out there. Typically, lyrical content written about lost relationships will carry equally sad music. That is not the case with this tune from Oh, Be Clever. The chorus of the song sounds much like an anthem. The approach is different, but I’ve listened to the song ten times since I started writing this intro. Give it a listen, and I’m sure you will find yourself hitting (okay clicking) the replay button as well. Take a listen to the song here and check out what it’s really about below.
Background
Cory and I have an awesome musical chemistry together. We got the idea after both of us had gone through a really bad breakup. I can’t speak for Cory, but I know that a broken heart can make people feel crazy. I had just lost the best thing to ever happen to me, and now I was forced to see it everyday on social media. I was a train wreck! I usually don’t even know how to cope with that kind of heartache. We were both so distraught and just missed our ex’s so much, so we thought about how crazy it was making us and decided to get our crazy out in a song. Of course the song is purely figurative, both of us have never done the stalking thing, but I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling of being so broken over a person that you feel like its going to drive you to madness. You’re always wondering where they are, what they’re doing, who they’re talking to and, if they are talking to someone new, are they prettier than you? Are they smarter than you? Are they less crazy than you are? We took ourselves into a metaphorical “crazy town” to see what would happen musically. I think the outcome was really great! We’re both very proud of the song.
Lyrics:
I peek in your window, do you see me?
I just wanna know you, won’t you get to know me?
I’ve been losin’ too much sleep.
You’ve been runnin’ away…
runnin’ away from me.
Chorus:
Cause I feel alive next to you!
I feel alive next to you!
What I gotta do, to get next to you?
I feel alive next to you.
I want you to love me, like its supposed to be.
I can see you’re lonely, I can be what you need.
Think how happy we could be!
You should run away…
run away with me.
Chorus
I followed you home again,
but you’re not alone.
She’s got your attention,
but not for long.
I bashed in your window,
set fire to all you own,
when you realize you love me,
I’ll let it all go!!
Chorus
