Recently, we had the pleasure of listening to what Justin Tranter (Semi Precious Weapons) had to say about their song “Aviation High.” The song carries an interesting electronic trance that pulls you in. The lyrics about being high on love have a similar repeating pattern that helps drive the direction of the song. Or as Justin puts it, “We all under-wrote and under-played, just let the vibe and story lead the way.”
Background:
“Aviation High” is a love song about a time in my life when I was so in love and in lust that I felt high all the time. Higher than a kite, aviation high, NASA high. Those moments when you’re so into that high you aren’t afraid of the crash. When you’re so into the person you aren’t afraid of heart break.
We wrote and recorded it in one day at Axident’s studio here in Los Angeles. So of course there were maximum two clouds in the sky, and the whiskey was warm. The writing process was one of the those beautiful organic moments you hope happen every time you walk into a studio. Everyone just started writing and exploring at the same time and the pieces all fell into place. We all under-wrote and under-played, just let the vibe and story lead the way.
