Five Best Albums To Beat The Spring Semester Blues
Words and Picks by Annette Schaefer

It’s time, yet again, to pack up those backpacks, purchase those overly priced textbooks and prepare for mountains of homework. After the relief of Christmas vacation, returning for the spring semester is usually one huge bummer. So here are some albums that always put me in a good mood and maybe they can help you beat those spring semester blues.

Best Coast – Fade Away
This has definitely been a favorite album of mine as of late. Best Coast’s laidback sound paired with fun melodies was exactly the medicine I needed to prepare for my final college semester. Songs like “What Have I Become” and “Fear of My Identity” have had me dancing and singing along with a smile on my face. Despite some not-so-happy lyrical themes, this album always manages to be the perfect pick-me-up because the music is that good.

The Bravery – The Sun and the Moon
Every time the whistles of “Bad Sun” come over my speakers I can’t help but crack a big stupid grin. The Sun and the Moon is the kind of album you can listen to when chilling with your friends or when you’re dancing around your room with no one watching. I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to feel sad when singing along with the “Ba Bas” on “Time Won’t Let Me Go.”

Jack’s Mannequin – Everything in Transit
Jack’s Mannequin’s upbeat piano lines always have me shaking my head in the best of ways. How can life not feel perfect when “Holiday From Real” is playing in the background? This album just feels like the soundtrack to the best day ever.

Mae – Singularity
Mae has always been a band that makes me burst with happiness inside. If your day starts off on a sour note, just pop in Singularity and turn up the track “Crazy”; you’ll feel like you’re flying by the end every time. Every song just feels so inspiring; they make you feel like you can conquer the world.

Tommy and the High Pilots – Everynight
Tommy and the High Pilots retro rock sound is the kind of infectious that lifts your spirits immediately. Everynight is the best album to blast in your car when you’re having a late night cruise with your friends rather than staying up studying. “Simple Solution” honestly makes every situation better.
