Five Albums From Bands That Will Breakout In 2014
Words and Picks by Jessica Klinner
There’s something special about listening to a band and realizing that one day they will do big things. That’s exactly how I feel about the five bands listed below. Each one has the potential to do incredible things this year. I’m excited to see what 2014 holds for all of them, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting and recognizing their potential to do big things this year!
New Politics – A Bad Girl In Harlem
Ever since I saw New Politics open for Fall Out Boy on their first post-hiatus tour, I have been absolutely obsessed. Prior to the show, I had never even heard of them, but after seeing them perform, I would never forget them. Their live performance is so high energy that I got tired just watching them. Lead singer David Boyd break dances any chance he gets while on stage, leaving the crowd in awe and roaring with applause. Their debut album, A Bad Girl In Harlem, blends pop, hip-hop and rock to create an unforgettable sound. With a spot as the opening band for the Monumentour featuring co-headliners Fall Out Boy and Paramore, the guys in New Politics are going to break out big in 2014.
Echosmith – Talking Dreams
Echosmith first came onto my music radar while on Warped Tour this past summer. I couldn’t check Twitter without seeing someone mention their name and how their set was a must see at Warped. Stupidly, I did not see them perform at Warped Tour, and I have really regretted that decision ever since. They released their debut album, Talking Dreams, last year and it’s nothing short of incredible. Ranging in age from 14 to 20, this band of siblings is loaded with an enormous amount of talent. Lead singer Sydney Sierota’s soft and sweet voice sounds a lot like that of Taylor Swift. They’ve only just begun their career, and I’m predicting that 2014 will be an amazing year for them.
Knuckle Puck – The Weight That You Buried
I’m always in the market for a new punk rock band to listen to, and Knuckle Puck is one of my recent favorites. The Chicago based quartet ‘s newest release entitled The Weight That You Buried contains raw emotion and engaging lyrics within each song. If you’re a fan of Real Friends, it’s likely that you’ve already heard of Knuckle Puck. If you haven’t, it’s time to get well acquainted. 2014 is going to be a break out year for Knuckle Puck, and they’re starting it off right on a spring tour with Neck Deep and Light Years.
Stages & Stereos – Small Town Favorites
I saw Stages & Stereos perform for the first time on the Glamour Kills Tour. Immediately after seeing them, I realized they had something special. Their sound and energy on stage reminded me a lot of the early releases from Every Avenue and Go Radio. Lead singer Daniel Lancaster knows how to hit a note. Apparently it runs in the family because his brother is none other than former Go Radio singer, Jason Lancaster. Their debut EP Small Town Favorites is packed with classic pop rock songs that will get stuck in your head for days. I’m very excited to see how they will continue to grow and develop. 2014 is going to bring lots of success to them.
PVRIS – Paris EP
Ever since I was first introduced to their music, I have been in love. Their debut EP sounds so different from anything I’ve listened to lately. The heavy instrumentals layered with lead singer Lynn Gunn’s electrifying and raspy voice makes for an incredibly unique sound. All I know is that they’ve just wrapped up production on their first album and I cannot wait to hear it. Do yourself a favor and check this band out if you haven’t already. They’re really going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2014.
