Farewell Flight – “The Places We’ll Go”

1

Farewell Flight’s front man, Luke Foley, shared the story of their current single, “The Places We’ll Go” with us. If you have had the chance to listen to their previous project, you may have felt Foley’s heavy heart. “Almost all of the songs I had written were depressing and sad…” According to the lead singer, the new single was written from a much happier place. Get the full story and listen to the track below.

Background
I co-wrote “The Places We’ll Go” with our record producer, Steven Wilson. On the band’s last record, almost all of the songs I had written were depressing and sad (mostly because I was depressed and sad…) But on this new record, I found myself in a place where I was much happier.  I guess I’d have to say that “The Places We’ll Go” is one of the first songs I’ve written that actually came from that place. The year prior to writing that song was one of the most tumultuous years of my life – the band left Pennsylvania, moved to Nashville, I got married, and we left our record label and publishing company. We had no idea how we were going to make this new record, but yet, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

So with all of this change happening, it felt like the future was wide open, that we were on the edge of something we couldn’t quite see yet. I wanted to write a song to capture that indescribable feeling I was experiencing: all of the magic and fear and excitement and wonder of not knowing what tomorrow will bring, but still wanting to chomp a big bite out of it anyways.

Lyrics
We are at the start
Breathe the magic in going down the road into
The wide open air
We can steer ourselves any direction that we choose

The places we’ll go
Oh, the places we’ll go

The course we’re on is still unmarked
But just one light can chase away the dark
So fold the map and follow your heart
Some hope and fears are hard to tell apart

The places we’ll go
Oh, the places we’ll go
