CADETS – Float
Review by Jessica Klinner

In a world where anyone with a Mac can produce music, it’s becoming more and more difficult for artists and bands to stand out. Often artists will blend different genres together in order to create a unique sound. Combining elements of alternative and electronic music, Cadets have done just that with their debut EP, Float. If you like music around the range of Capital Cities, The Neighbourhood, and Walk The Moon, Cadets will be your new favorite band!

The EP kicks off with the song “Are You One.” Lead singer Josh Williams introduces the song with a deep vocal performance. Whenever Williams steps in to begin singing a verse or chorus, the music seems to take a backseat, allowing his vocals to lead.  The first track is crucial to setting the stage for the rest of the EP and “Are You One” does a perfect job of this by making listeners feel like they’ve been transported into outer space.

The next song, “Undercover Friends,” once again shows Williams’ lower vocal range against the synths and drums. While verses progress slowly and hauntingly, the chorus really takes off and picks up the pace of the song.  This is the catchiest song on the EP and produces a chorus that will be stuck in your head for days.

The final track “Float,” continues the trend of deep opening vocals, creating a haunting and hypnotizing sound. The verses build up to the chorus and the chorus smoothly transitions back into the verses. It rounds out the EP in a wonderful way, leaving listeners wanting more.

Overall, the steady progressing verses contrasted with the catchy upbeat choruses create a unique sound guaranteed to make Cadets a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. They’re the new kids on the block, but are going to shake the scene with this EP!

Overall Rating: 4/5
