Saves The Day – Saves The Day
Review by Annette Schaefer

In 2011, Saves The Day released Daybreak, a quite ambitious album that was the long awaited finale to the trilogy they began in 2006. On Tuesday the band released their self titled album, Saves The Day, and honestly it is refreshingly simple and light in comparison to Daybreak. With head-bobbing rhythms, ringing guitars, and Chris Conley’s unmistakable high-pitched vocals, Saves The Day, is an enjoyable listen.

The album begins with the bouncy track, “Remember,” that will likely have you singing along by the end. It then moves into a similarly styled track, “In the in Between.” The one time the album seems to slow down is on the third song “Beyond All of Time” with sweet but at time cliché lyrics.

Tracks like “Ain’t No Kind of Love” and “Ring Pop” are some of the more intriguing songs on this release. “Ain’t No Kind of Love” will grab you quickly with its incredibly catchy verses and guitar riffs that are bound to get stuck in your head (especially when the main melody is put into guitar solo form towards the end of the song). “Ring Pop” has all the feel of an anthem with lyrics like “…if it’s the last thing that we do, I want to sing along with you.”

There is one thing that keeps Saves The Day from being the great album that it’s fun hooks seem to promise it will be. The album, while made up of several awesome songs, tends to run together. Many tracks sound similar to the next and then the next, and it can be easy to lose interest after the first half of the album. I promise you, though, if you stick it out to the end, you will find all the little gems placed throughout the album that make it a worthwhile listen.
