Electro pop is becoming a more appreciated genre and we’re so glad that it is, especially since it brought the world The Frail, from San Francisco, CA. They have released their new song “Back To Me” which will be apart of their upcoming album LoveDeathLegend and features Kylee Swenson from Loquat! Lucky for us, and for you, they have filled us in on the complete backstory to the song. Although you may think the song is happy and uplifting, due to the nature of the genre, it’s not quite that. Backstory
“Back To Me” was started by me (Danny) with just the beginning piano line and a rough drum beat. We had it in our pile of songs we wanted to work on and finish but it kind of sat there for a while with us doing nothing with it and me being stumped on what to write about. We kept moving forward with it once we stepped into Different Fur Studios in San Francisco and Patrick (our producer) got me thinking about it again. I was in a long distance relationship at that point with a friend turned into something else. It was a little rough and there were these feelings of wanting to go down to San Diego where the girl was and try to figure it out. But at the same time I had this flighty feeling of not wanting to do anything at all. “Back To Me” really ended up being about wanting to be with someone but being afraid to take the leap and then realizing later on that you really never wanted to be in that kind of relationship in the first place. The lyrics “I can’t wait to fly to you, if you’re saving us then I’m saving you.” really anchored down the point that a relationship is never about saving someone no matter how much you think you want to help or be part of someones life, and that it’s all about the natural feeling and caring that you have for someone and being more genuine with your feelings. Once the lyrics and that idea came into place, I thought it would be amazing to have one of my favorite singers kind of play the female role in the song so I hit up Kylee Swenson from an amazing band called Loquat. She was all for it, and thus the song came to be what it is now. We are really happy with how it came out, and feel like it really grew into something we can be proud of.
