Emblem3 – Nothing To Lose
Review by Cara Bahniuk
Having a few friends who like Emblem 3, I have heard many things about them, from how catchy their songs are to how addictive their live performances are. These three boys haven’t made it to my part of the country yet, so I haven’t had the chance to witness their performance, but after listening to Nothing To Lose I can totally agree on the catchy tunes.
If you have a vision in your head about what their first full-length would sound like, I’m positive this album far outreaches that. Nothing To Lose includes plenty of up-beat songs with a few slow songs in there that will definitely tug at your emotions. But don’t start crying there yet, Emblem 3 includes MANY hilarious lyrics thrown into multiple songs. (I heard that Taylor Swift and Kanye and Kim shout out, boys, and I definitely approve).
Nothing To Lose starts off with “Just For One Day”, a song I can’t imagine any other group singing but Emblem 3. Including tropical-esque acoustic guitar riffs and steel drums among other instruments, this song will make you feel like you are watching them perform right on Huntington Beach.
If you’ve listened to the radio anytime recently, you’ve probably heard their hit single “Chloe” which falls as the fourth track on the album. Although “Chloe” is not my favorite song on the album, it is the obvious single. It embodies Emblem3 as a band featuring all three boys on main vocals and you can’t help but dance when you hear the song. I apologize if it gets stuck in your head for the rest of the day!
Emblem3 takes you back to California on up-beat tracks “I Love LA” and “Sunset Blvd” showing an intense love to their hometown. Both these tracks scream the need to be blasted in your car or headphones as you’re skateboarding down a California boardwalk. The slowest song on the album, “3000 miles”, features Drew Chadwick on main vocals and is a definite tear jerker being relatable to anyone missing someone far away.
Wesley, Keaton and Drew have created a “boy band” that is much different than the many others out in the industry today, and that makes them stand out to many. Their voices are different from one another, but fit perfectly in their style of music. They are just another warning to the world that boy bands are taking over.
Overall, I enjoyed this album and I recommend everyone to check it out. Their style of music has the potential to reach many different types of people and with “Chloe” already blowing up on the radio, you’ll be hearing other songs from them in no time.
Overall Rating: 4/5
Recommended Tracks: “Just For One Day” and “Sunset Blvd”
