Five Albums To Jam On Your Way To Warped Tour 2013
Words and Picks by Annette Schaefer

Not only is Warped Tour a fun day in the sun, it is a rock ‘n’ roll carnival that may feature some of your favorite bands or musicians all in one show and in one day. Being a hard core Warped Tour veteran (I’ll be attending my eighth Warped Tour later this month), it wasn’t hard for me to find several bands that I was willing to battle the heat for. These are some of the awesome albums that I’ll be rocking out to before I go see these bands hit the Warped stage.

Big D and the Kids Table – Strictly Rude
In my opinion, no style of music captures the sound of summer the way ska does; it’s fun, laid-back, and easy to dance to. When summertime rolls around I never hesitate to put Big D and the Kids Table’s Strictly Rude into my stereo. I just can’t be sad when listening to tracks like “Steady Riot” and “Shinning On” with their chill upstroke guitars and upbeat lyrics. This is definitely one of my favorite summertime jams and I can’t wait to sing along to these songs during their set this summer.

Silverstein – Discovering the Waterfront
Discovering the Waterfront is the first album I ever owned by Silverstein and it is probably my favorite. I still remember singing along to songs “Smile in Your Sleep” and title track “Discovering the Waterfront” during their 2006 set at my first Warped Tour. This album brings back so many memories of middle school and high school, and it always brings me back to that first Warped show.

The Early November – In Currents
I also remember checking out The Early November at my first Warped Tour in 2006, and although I only stayed for maybe half their set, I did jump around and have a blast. It wasn’t until their latest album In Currents, though, that I really got into the band. I really hope to get to dance to songs like “Tell Me Why” at their set this year and get the chance to fall in love with this band even more.

Hawthorne Heights – The Silence in Black and White
I’ve been a Hawthorne Heights fan for some time now and The Silence in Black and White is the album that introduced me to them. With classic tracks such as “Ohio is for Lovers” and “Niki FM” this album is a must have Hawthorne Heights album and will surely get a few plays from the band at this year’s Warped Tour. I haven’t seen these guys since their performance at the 2007 Warped Tour and I am more than stoked to see them back in action in 2013.

Motion City Soundtrack – Even If It Kills Me
Even If It Kills Me  is probably my favorite album on this list. It defined my summer last year after playing in my car for months on end. Every single track is absolutely wonderful and reaches out to me in ways I can’t even begin to explain; if any band “gets” me it’s Motion City Soundtrack. Songs like “Broken Heart” and “Point of Extinction” are basically my theme songs. I know I’ll know nearly every word to every song they play from this album at this year’s show.
