Five Albums For A Summer Drive
Words and Picks by Cara Bahniuk
I don’t know about any of you, but I spend a lot of time in my car in the summer – driving to and from the beach, music festivals, the mall, you name it. The only thing that can get you through these drives is MUSIC and there’s no doubt about that. Whether you didn’t think you’d like the artists listed below, you should give them a spin in your car this summer. Who knows? You may have a new favorite jam.
Cher Lloyd – Sticks & Stones
You have most likely heard Cher Lloyd’s famous “UH”‘s on your radio at some point, but a little known fact is that the rest of her album is just as jam worthy and will have you singing along to every word in no time. From her song “Grow Up” featuring Busta Rhymes to the girl friendly “Oath,” Cher definitely recorded this album for summer drives.
Olly Murs – Right Place Right Time
To continue on my British pop artist role, Olly Murs is definitely the next album that needs to be spun. It was so hard for me to pick a favorite song, and seeing him perform them live a few months ago made it even harder. Try to put this album on and not dance along. It’s impossible!
The Neighbourhood – I Love You.
Although this album gives off a spooky, mysterious vibe, there are MANY catchy songs on this album. From songs like “W.D.Y.W.F.M” to the ever famous “Sweater Weather,” The Neighbourhood will have you singing along. If you are on the verge of liking this album, watch their music videos. You’ll be immediately intrigued by what The Neighbourhood has got going on.
Foster The People – Torches
This album may be overplayed in some of your speakers, but after seeing Foster the People perform live at Firefly this past weekend and even hearing some of the new songs, I have re-fallen in love with Torches. Every song on this album is perfect to blast while driving with your windows down and soon enough Foster the People will be back with an album that will most likely BLOW your mind.
One Direction – Take Me Home
If you know anything about me, you know that having One Direction as my number one summer jam album is a no-brainer. Having been mildly interested in (okay–flat out obsessed) One Direction since the release of their single “What Makes You Beautiful” however long ago that was, I get excited anytime they touch anything musical and Take Me Home is no different. This album has been in my car’s cd player since I got it in November, and I don’t see it leaving anytime soon. Just listen to it.
