How did you begin?
My mom plays piano so I would listen to her play and I loved it so much that when I was five I started taking piano lessons. When I was eleven I started writing songs but people made fun of my voice so I didn’t sing. When I was thirteen I realized that no one else knew how to sing or play the songs the way I wanted them to be played so I started doing it myself.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
There are so many amazing things that have happened and more highlights than I can count but I have to say that Vans Warped Tour is the best day of my life every year. It’s been an honor playing it for the past four years (going on five.)
Why should people listen to your music? What makes you different?
I think people would want to listen to my music because it’s relatable. I write about very strong emotions, ones that everyone would feel at some point in their lives. I’m “different” in the sense that my life’s routine isn’t the same as everybody else’s. I have cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and epilepsy. However, I don’t let these issues define me – I am not my diagnoses – and my goal is to inspire others and help them realize that they can get through whatever obstacles they face in their own lives.
