Five Albums for Road Trips
Words and Picks by Colleen Casey

Spring is here and with summer just around the corner, it’s the start of the prime road tripping seasons.  Nothing is better than cruising down the highway with the windows down and singing along to your favorite tunes, whether alone or with friends.  These are five albums that never fail to keep me entertained on long drives and road trips.

Saves the Day – Through Being Cool
Saves the Day are one of those bands that I have the hardest time deciding what album is my favorite.  When it comes to driving, Through Being Cool definitely wins my heart.  It has some of my favorite driving anthems that I can’t help but belt out every lyric to “All Star Me”, “Shoulder to the Wheel”, “Holly Hox, Forget Me Nots” just to name a few.  So next time you get in the car, pop in Through Being Cool and let Chris Conley’s incredible vocals take you for a ride.

Hellogoodbye – Would It Kill You?
Would It Kill You has a different sound from previous Hellogoodbye albums.  It’s a change of pace from their electro-synth sounds to poppy sing-a-longs with the upbeat sounds of the ukulele. These songs can make you feel like you are driving to the beach when in reality you are surrounded by cornfields.

The Front Bottoms – The Front Bottoms
Need an album to keep you awake?  Then The Front Bottoms’ self-titled album will have you dancing in your seat in no time.  Each song is quirky and unique in it’s own way with incredible sounds from the brass instrumentals.  This album is one of my favorites to blast on my two-hour drive home from school.

The Format – Dog Problems
I recommend Dog Problems not only for road trips, but also to anyone that is a fan of fun.  While I do enjoy fun’s music, The Format is in my opinion Nate Ruess’s best work.  My favorite song on this album is “She Doesn’t Get It.”  This is the perfect album for those summertime drives.

M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is the type of album to play while cruising on those night drives through big cities or alongside a river with the moonlight.  Their single is even called “Midnight City.”  This album consists of 2 LPs with 22 songs.  Each song takes you on an adventure with its slow beginnings that lead to the weaving in and out with different instrumentals.  This album gives off sort of an 80’s mixed with modern vibe and I love every second of it.
