Located in New York City, Vajra is not your typical rock band. They bring a slight darker twist on rock music with influences from eastern India to make for an interesting combination. How did Vajra form?
Annamaria started writing our debut album in India during her self-imposed exile. When she came back to NYC, she asked Blake Fleming (former drummer) if he would like to be a part of the project, and then Doug next, and then Will. Finally, Blake wanted to pursue writing on his own solo project, and he introduced us to Luke, his protege.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Probably playing the Bowery Ballroom and The Roxy. To think that we were playing on the same stage as some of our influences was both scary and thrilling at the same time.
Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
Because we are good. We have something to say, bridging east and west and hopefully resonating and evoking something that will inspire you to travel a new space.
