Five Best Fueled By Ramen Releases
Album Picks & Words by Morgan Waldorf
The last couple weeks have seen a huge resurgence in current and former Fueled By Ramen artists making a come back. With a new Cute Is What We Aim For EP, Paramore single and a certain band coming off a three year hiatus it’s easy to get nostalgic for days when we all owned purple hoodies and lots of Clandestine merch. Not only are FBR veterans still going strong but Fun. are blowing up the charts (now new Grammy winners!) and newcomers Twenty One Pilots are making a name for themselves in the music scene. It’s safe to say that Fueled By Ramen remains a prominent record label and I thought now would be the perfect time to reflect on some of my favorite Fueled By Ramen records.
The Academy Is… – Almost Here
Almost Here was a very strong debut album. With songs about sticking to their artistic vision and appreciating their friends the band showed their authenticity and passion. It set up the band for many more great records to come. It’s unfortunate that it only ended up being two more.
Panic! At The Disco – A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out
This record is truly different than anything else I’ve heard to this day. It’s got a unique sound combining unexpected influences like cabaret with pop punk. It’s clever lyrics and extremely catchy songs caught my attention instantly when it came out and it remains one of my favorite records.
Cute Is What We Aim For – The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch
Though this band seemed to be just another generic pop punk band with a short lived career back in 2006 I still find myself jamming to the catchy choruses of “There’s A Class For This” and “Curse of Curves.” It’s good to see the band revamped and on the road again playing some of these fun tunes.
Paramore – Brand New Eyes
After the success of the fun and high energy record Riot! I found Brand New Eyes to be very mature and beautifully crafted. The band addressed internal issues they had been having and their appreciation for the fans with extremely honest lyrics and it’s definitely my favorite Paramore record so far.
Fall Out Boy – Take This To Your Grave
And of course, Fall Out Boy. While it’s hard to choose my favorite Fall Out Boy record I went with Take This To Your Grave because it’s the record that saw the band solidifying their sound and the direction they wanted to go as a band. It’s a very cohesive record with phenomenal lyrics and high energy. What would any Fall Out Boy show be without “Saturday?”
