Does This Look Infected 10th Anniversary Tour

It’s hard to believe that Sum 41 has been a band for well over a decade and are still going strong.  We recently got a chance to check out their show at a recent stop in Houston, TX.

The show opened with the high energy duo IAmDynamite and the female fueled band Hunter Valentine.  Both openers did a fantastic job of getting the crowd ready for what was to come late that night.  Shortly after, the stage began to be set up for the main attraction.  A huge banner with the words SUM 41 in blood red rolled out and the crowd automatically began to go crazy and start chanting the bands name.  Finally it was time for the show, the house lights went down and every went crazy as Sum 41 took the stage in support of the 10 year anniversary of their album Does This Look Infected?  The band opened with the hit “The Hell Song” and the crowd was automatically off their feet, screaming every word back.  The audience was a good mixture of both young and old fans, but no matter the age everyone seemed to be enjoying the concert the same way.  Even I couldn’t help but get nostalgic as the band played through some of their greatest hits, including “In Too Deep” and “Motivation”, it was a rush and reminded me of how much I absolutely adored this band in Junior High and High School and how I still enjoyed their high energy songs.

The band played through nearly everything from “Does This Look Infected” and of course threw in the old classics from “All Killer No Filler” and their most recent albums as well.  The four piece were full of witty banter on stage making the crowd roar with laughter at times.  When they slowed things down and announced they would be playing a “love song” about someone they dearly missed, the crowd got silent anticipating what was next, and then the band broke into the song “A.N.I.C”, making the crowd realize the band was messing around and definitely not playing some sappy love song.  (Trust me…look up the meaning of the abbreviation for that song and you will certainly see what I mean).

After breezing through 15 songs, the band finished with “Still Waiting” and proceeded to leave the stage, but the crowd was also still waiting for more.  The four piece came back out strong with covers of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and even “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys, great choices for covers considering everyone in the crowd was singing at the tops of their lungs to these.  Finally, as the first chords for the band’s biggest hit “Fat Lip” started, there was not a single person in the crowd who wasn’t off their feet for this.  The band closed out the night with their heavy metal alter ego song/band “Pain For Pleasure”.  Drummer Steve ran out onto the stage sporting a silver cape and showcased his heavy metal pipes and the crowd went crazy.

It’s truly an amazing experience to see a band like Sum 41, who has been around for well over a decade still taking the stage and giving it everything they have.  Personally, seeing them still have the same energy that they had back when I saw them in my Junior High days gives me so much respect for them. Whether you have been a fan of this band since they started, or are maybe just now getting into them, this is a tour that you definitely do not want to miss if they make a stop through your town.
