Unsigned artists are a force to be reckoned with. They break into the depths of their soul and produce some of the rawest music in the world because no one is telling them how it should be done. Highlight likes to recognize those artists, one of which is Minneapolis, MN native, Mike Fisher. This young artist is building his fandom by being himself and creating music that others can’t help but love. Check out what he has to say about his newly found solo career and his music below.

How did you begin writing/creating music?
Waking up one day while in my former band, I had these songs floating around in my head that I knew I had to record and put down. I don’t know how they got to me, but I knew they had to come out. This was kind of a turning point for me, as these songs were so strong and meaningful to me, I knew it was a path I had to follow on my own. So I left my band at the time, sold off pretty much all of my gear to pay off some serious debt and to help me fund my endeavors to Nashville and back to record my new music.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Having just started my solo career, the highlight of it so far has been getting to release a music video just a couple weeks after my first single, which was shot by Ryan Schneider. It’s usually kind of hard to do that when you’re just starting out, but I have some amazing friends with a lot of talent and who are very helpful.

Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
Whether my songs are taken as brutally honest, cocky, or sometimes even arrogant, they are sincere, they tell the truth, they are me, and sometimes they tell a story about me before it even happens (if that makes sense). I like to inspire people with my music to listen to the song in their hearts and be honest with themselves. If being honest in song means inspiring people to take risks in their life for something better, something they desire, something they deserve, then that’s all I could hope my music would do for someone.

Inspirational elements are just one of the topics I enjoy writing about, but as long as I like an idea and it’s catchy, the music I write can range on topics from sex all the way to ghosts.
