Outasight – Nights Like These
Review by Jen Boylen
I’m going to be totally honest, I wasn’t very familiar with Outasight when I decided to do this review but man was I living under a rock. With almost 200,000 likes on Facebook, Nights Like These is definitely an album everyone should have in their collection.
Outasight has a Cobra Starship meets Gym Class Heroes feel with the style of musicians like Asher Roth and Mac Miller. This record is electronic and upbeat with a hip-hop flavor. It’s the perfect album for anyone who likes ‘frat rap’ and great pop melodies. With such a big record label and mainstream sound I’m shocked I don’t hear more of Richard Andrew’s voice on the radio every time I start my car other than just the hit “Tonight is The Night”. This entire record is one everyone will love. It’s the perfect soundtrack to a great party or just something to turn on so every one can see who is the best rapper.
My favorite track on Nights Like These is by far “I’ll Drink To That”. It’s one of those anthems you just wait all week to play really loud and let loose to. Not to mention the melody is so catchy, there’s no way it won’t get stuck in your head all day. Definitely worthy of a late night cruise with the windows down or in any case a good Facebook status.
Now, I don’t in any means dislike this album; I would recommend it to anyone and I definitely know tons of people who would love Nights Like These, I was just a little underwhelmed. When it started playing I though to myself, “Damn, I’m going to love this record” but once it was finished I’m not sure I fell completely in love. The whole record is pretty one-dimensional; each track doesn’t necessarily stand on it’s own or stand out from the rest of the ten featured on Nights Like These.
All the same, Nights Like These is definitely one to pick up. You’re going to hear it being played everywhere either way so you might as well jump on the bandwagon now.
