Co-founders Ashley Osborn and McKenzie Hughes are covering Lollapalooza for you, our readers, this weekend! Here’s a sneak peak recap of day one and some brief words about the artists who we were able to experience. A much more detailed recap can be found in our August issue (featuring William Beckett) which will be released on Tuesday! More information about how you can read the next issue for free can be found here!

Upon our arrival at Lollapalooza, we had the honor to listen to Dr. Dog while in the media tent by the Red Bull Stage. Dr. Dog I learned is one of the most underrated artists simply by sound. Blinded by the sun, and in reclined patio chairs, watching Dr. Dog was not an option. Learning quickly that this is the most up-lifting experience- finding an artist that captures you by sounds, and not by their appearance or stage presence.

Zedd is the prime example of teenagers in their haven. All beautifully dressed in the era of the 90’s and expecting a large dance party- is what each individual at Perry’s witnessed. An automatic crowd pleaser for both young and older festivalgoers, Zedd lit up the stage with more than just remixes, but amazing graphics as well.

While McKenzie was catching Zedd’s set, I had the chance to photograph canadian wonder band, Metric. Vocalist Emily Hanes (photographed above) was a ball of energy onstage. Her soft vocals radiated from the Bud Light mainstage straight into the ears of their large crowd. Their energy certainly kick-started my day and I can gladly say their set was one of my highlight (pun) moments of the first day of Lollpalooza!

Viewers had the opportunity to be simply surprised when catching the end of Helena’s set at the BMI Stage. Highlight had discovered a lost treasure in the music industry. From never knowing of the artist Helena, it was one of the greatest performances to have witnessed during the day.

Thenewno2 (photographed above) took each individual with their diversity in sound, stage presence, and atmosphere of their performance. Capturing the audience straight from their opener of using electronic beats, guitars, drums, bass, and rhythm to capture a different form of a dance party, their new release should not be undermined.

Passion Pit (photographed above and below) came out to have been on of the most tantalizing performances before nightfall. With the sun setting towards the West, Passion Pit elevated their performance to a heartwarming eighty-five minutes of reliable sing-alongs.

M83 (photographed below) spoke to fans with instrumentals, an amazing light show at dusk with the sun setting, and were hungry to please fans. With being able to show diversity and true artistry, M83 gave the Sony Stage viewers exactly what they needed to close out the event at Lollapalooza- a stellar performance with an amazing view of Chicago’s skyline.

Ozzy Osborn grabbed each individual with his laughter and Black Sabbath was able to greet the crowd with a true ‘rock-star’ performance. Straight from their opening video recapping their entire career, Black Sabbath had the most diverse and supportive crowd to wrap up the festival for Friday night. Classic songs and memories relit for many viewers, their performance was anything shy of perfection.
