Close To Home – Momentum
Album Review by Kristy Siciliano

Close to Home recently released their best album to date entitled “Momentum”. Coming from Cincinnati, Ohio, Close to Home brings a lot to the table. With their recent departure of their singer Nick Steins right before they went into the studio to record Momentum, they were under pressure to find a new vocalist. They brought on Andrew DeNeef who filled Nick Steins shoes perfectly. Everything from their lyrics, to melodic melodies and guest vocalists, Momentum is nothing but sheer perfection.

For those of you who have been a fan of Close To Home you may recognize their intro to Momentum as a more progressed version of their intro to Never Back Down. The piano that is used in this intro is beautiful, along with the style that they chose. The transition from the intro to their first song, which is titled “Don’t Waste Your Breath”, is nothing but smooth all around and it flows beautifully. The fact that they chose to continue that particular style for their intro to this cd, is genius. Like I stated before, it’s a more progressed version and you can also see how much they’ve grown in only a little over a year.

You can more then definitely see and hear the progression of Close To Home between Momentum and Never Back Down; you can sense the amount of time that was put into the lyrics along with all of the instrumentals as well as other details that were put into this album. Close To Home brought on Kyle Pavone and Dave Stephens[We Came As Romans] as guest vocalists for their song “Family Ties”. Their voices and screams go along with the feeling and style so perfectly, if they had chosen any other vocalists for the guest spot I don’t believe it wouldn’t have worked out better, at least in my opinion.

I definitely recommend checking out these songs off of Momentum: Backstabbers Need Not Apply, Modern Warfare, Young & Stupid and Hanging Onto Nothing. All of these songs have a different feeling to them but they have similarities in the style that was chosen. The album flips from a lot of heavy parts to more of a laid back feeling, which is good for people who need a change of pace from heavy songs. This album is definitely a good pick me up, if you’re not in the best of moods and need some cheering up, just put Momentum on and your mood will definitely turn for the better.

Close To Home is currently on the Scream It Like You Mean It tour. If it hasn’t passed your city yet and you get the chance to go, I highly recommend going out to that show and checking out their set! They put on an amazing show and the amount of crowd interaction with them is incredible. No future tours have been announced for them yet, but definitely keep your eyes out for new tour announcements. I have a feeling they’re going to be going on a lot of tours in the near future.

Overall Rating: 5/5
