Boys Like Girls – Crazy World EP

It’s been 3 years since Boys Like Girls sophomore album,” Love Drunk” was released. In those three years ,the band has recruited new bassist Morgan Dorr and done a lot of growing up, musically. As a precursor to their highly anticipated third full length,” Crazy World” album the band has released the three- song Crazy World EP. While it isn’t miles away from the sound on their previous efforts, the EP shows a huge step forward for Boys Like Girls with a much more mature musical structure and sound.
The first track “Be Your Everything” is a strong way to come back from their three year break from releasing music. It is a perfect example of how the band has always been so good at ballads, and it is probably their best and strongest one yet. This song is sure to be a very successful single for the band.
“Life Of The Party” is an upbeat and danceable track with a slight country influence that doesn’t quite sound like anything the band has ever done before. This is another strong track and it shows the potential for their upcoming music.
“The First Time” is the most similar to old Boys Like Girls material. It’s a song about reminiscing and seeing someone from your past. It has a huge chorus and the feel of classic Boys Like Girls.
This EP is extremely promising and just heightens the anticipation for the full length” Crazy World”, due out this fall. The band has strayed away from the generic pop sound found on” Love Drunk” and has brought out the more creative and mature sides of their music. In “Life Of The Party” Martin Johnson exclaims “You smell that? Smells like Boys Like Girls is back” and it seems like they definitely are back and here to stay.
