One Direction – Up All Night
Album Review by Jessica Klinner
If you’ve been paying attention the past few months, you’ve probably seen or at least heard of the new boy band taking the world by storm known as One Direction. They have all the characteristics that a boy band must encompass: good looks, catchy melodies, flawless five part harmonies, and lovey-dovey lyrics. The thing that sets One Direction apart from other boy bands is the fact that they are from across the pond. That’s right ladies, these dashing gents are from Britain! I cannot get on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social network without seeing these guys pop up! Their name is spreading like wildfire here in the US. I’m not gonna lie; there is a very special place in my heart saved especially for boy bands! I have always been a sucker for them ever since N’SYNC and the Backstreet Boys. My music taste has drastically changed throughout the years, but my love of boy bands has always remained the same so I jumped at the chance to review their debut album!
Here’s a fun fact for you: One Direction actually got their start on the popular British TV show, The X Factor. Each member auditioned as a single act, but the judges of the show thought they would work better as a group. They placed third on the show, but immediately after signed a contract with Syco Records. Since then the boys in One Direction have been going non-stop. Their debut album, Up All Night, was released in the UK last fall and in the US on March 13th. The original release date in the US was set for March 23rd, but due to popular fan demand the label announced it would be released a week early.
“What Makes You Beautiful” is a perfect opener to the album. This toe-tapping tune will have you singing along in no time. The following song, “Gotta Be You” is a slow jam, but equally as catchy. “One Thing” is the song off the album that will instantly get stuck in your head for days! Up All Night is filled with dancey pop tunes that are perfect for any slumber party or guilty pleasure playlist. The album will become a classic first album for the boys in One Direction. It already debuted at #2 in the UK and is well on its way to topping the charts in the States. It’s not hard to see that these boys are taking over the pop music scene and making a run for super stardom. They are on their way to becoming this generation’s N’SYNC and their world wide recognition may even be able to compare with “Beatlemania”, but let’s not get too carried away here.
