We recently were graced with the opportunity to catch up with the lovely Cady Groves. Read below as she talks about her music, her goals and her career.
Interview by Heather Houghton
How did your music career begin in Oklahoma?
I was always writing as a kid… and singing. I was so obsessed with Alanis Morissette and my dad was a drummer so those two things combined was a recipe for the cady disaster!
Is music what you wanted to do all along? What would you be doing now if you weren’t creating music?
I’ve always wanted to do music but I was realistic. I know that 1 in a billion people really get the opportunity to do this and had no idea where to start. So I went to college, got my culinary degree and then was like, ‘Okay! I have a fall back plan now, let’s jump off the music cliff and see if I land on my feet!’
What message do you try to relay through your music?
I try to relay realness and also the fact that I don’t know who I am and that that’s an okay thing to feel. You don’t have to have everything figured out all the time. People hurt you and you hurt people. I’m trying to sort it all out on paper.
Do you prefer recording or performing?
Oh man, I love them both so much! I am a songwriter so recording and writing are such euphoric feelings for me. But honestly, the sound of the crowd screaming those songs back at me at a performance could never be replaced as the most amazing feeling ever.
What are you looking forward to most for your tour with Hot Chelle Rae?
I can’t wait to learn from them. They are the real deal. Real musicians. They have proved to be genuine friends to me over and over. It’s gonna be a good tour.
What has been the “Highlight” of your career so far?
Hmm… Either the time I saw that wrestler from TV, Triple H, in a New York diner and hit on him OR having Blake Shelton in my music video for my single “This Little Girl!”
What is your main goal for 2012?
I just always want to be a better version of me, not different, and not trivial things. I wanna love hard and earn respect for what I genuinely love to do.
