Rachel McClusky Interview
By McKenzie Hughes
1. Briefly describe yourself and your music and how they mesh together in your everyday life:
Music has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I write music for the same reason that I listen to it; to be able to relate on a deeper level to whatever is going on in my life. I find myself writing down lyrics throughout the day, and I never go too long without pressing play on my iPod. I have always had a special connection with music that has fed my passion throughout the years.
2. Focusing on creating music is an important part of your life, but where do you see yourself heading in 2012?
We will be releasing my first full-length album BELEAVE ME within the next couple of months and will also be putting together a small tour! I am hoping to move to Los Angeles in the Fall and continue to pursue music out there.
3. Are there any places you have been for music that you want to revisit that sparked creativity?
I went to London in October for a showcase and fell in love with it. It was such a refreshing experience and I was inspired by the different culture and how amazing music is out there. Needless to say I did a lot of writing when I returned.
4. Creating music is very detailed process; can you tell us about your experience with developing your talent?
Creating music is very individualistic process that varies based on each artist’s approach. I normally start out with an idea of a melody, then put chords to that, and finally I insert lyrics that have normally been brewing up for a bit. Sometimes it all happens at once! That’s when I’m really lucky.
5. What is the “Highlight” moment in your career to date?
I have to say two! I would have to say having my song “Secret Crush” in the Disney movie PROM last year. It was such a cool experience to hear my song played in the movie! The second was my performances for the opening and closing ceremonies for the Special Olympics National Games in Nebraska (2010). I performed a song I wrote for the games and was able to perform it in front of 15,000 people. The feeling I got in front of all those people on such a huge stage was like nothing I’ve ever felt before.
6. Any upcoming tours or events for 2012?
I have some shows coming up all around the Chicago-land area and in other states.
